After a very long and hard pandemic period, we can finally travel. So, let's check out why Porto is the one you should visit!

June is a special month: the days get longer, the temperature rises, and summer starts to sprout its plans and illusions. It's also a festive season for Portugal, with celebrations in honour of popular saints St. Anthony, St. John and St. Peter, which has influence on outdoor festivals and dances throughout the country. Of particular importance are the festivals of St. Anthony in Lisbon (June 12-13) and St. John in Porto (June 23-24), which precede another important holiday, Portugal Day, celebrated on June 10 to honour the poet Camões.

Thanks to all these celebrations, the whole month is filled with a joyful atmosphere, with decorated streets, trees wrapped in garlands and small pots of manjericos on every corner. Not sure what manjericos are? Read on and learn about this and other reasons to visit Porto in June.

Weather in Porto in June

Porto is located by the sea and therefore has a mild climate. In June, daytime temperatures are around 20-23ºC. During the day, in the sun, a short sleeve will be the best choice, in the shade or at the end of the day, a jacket or jumper can be useful.

It is always said that the weather is bad in the north, but don't worry about it and leave your winter coat at home: the thermometer rarely drops below 10ºC. A few drops of rain may happen, but even that is unlikely in the second half of the month.

Activities in Oporto in June

June in Porto offers many activities. Music lovers will find everything from classical and avant-garde music at Casa da Musica to pop and electronic music at the Hard Club on Praça do Infante. If you're delighted by the Ferreira Borges Market, which hosts concerts, and the square where it's located, don't forget to sign up for the Medieval and Ribeira tour, where we'll tell you everything you need to know.

For lovers, a tradition this month is to buy manjerico, or basil, which in Portugal is also called the herb of lovers. A romantic plan related to this gift is a walk through the gardens of the Palacio de Cristal, which offers a beautiful view of the river, or one of the cruises on the six bridges. If the weather is good, which it is usually in June, a walk along the Douro River is a good option. Our most romantic suggestion is a tour of Gaia and its wine cellars. During which you will find out why Gaia is the city of love, and you will have the chance to fall in love with the sweet wine of port.

Visiting Porto with children is also a good option, as we have interactive shows such as Legends of Porto in Alfándega or the famous World of Discovery, focusing on the era of maritime exploration. The cultural program for children is full of attractions. If you don't know what to choose, our guides will certainly advise you.
